Bangladesh defeat South Africa
Bangladesh defeated South Africa by 21 runs after posting their highest one-day international score in their campaign opener of Cricket World Cup 2019 on Sunday at the Oval stadium.
South Africa kept losing wickets on regular intervals and failed to reached the set target of 331 runs.
Bangladesh's pacers Mohammad Saifuddin and Mustafizur Rahman thrashed the opponent with their brilliant bowling.
South Africa captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and fielded, but his decision backfired badly as Bangladesh put his lethargic bowling attack to the sword.
In the first innings, Mushfiqur made 78 from 80 balls and Shakib's 75 came from 84 balls as the pair combined in a 142-run partnership.
That was Bangladesh's highest World Cup stand and set the stage to beat their previous highest ODI total of 329 for six against Pakistan in 2015.
Thrashed by a 104 runs in their first match against England on Thursday, South Africa, deprived of key batsman Hashim Amla due to a head injury suffered in that loss, will have to score 331 to avoid a second successive defeat.
Tamim Iqbal was fit to open the batting after a wrist injury, but it was Soumya Sarkar who hit the first boundary, his flick off Lungi Ngidi bringing a huge roar from Bangladesh fans who made up the majority of the crowd at the Oval, the south London headquarters of Surrey.
Those green-shirt clad Bangladesh supporters were back on the feet as Tamim and Soumya, who hit five fours in six balls at one point, brought up their fifty partnership in just seven overs.
After conceding 27 in two overs, the barrage took its toll on Ngidi, who fielded a Tamim shot and petulantly threw at the stumps, forcing the Bangladesh opener to fend it away in self-preservation.
Moments later, Ngidi trudged from the pitch, reportedly suffering from a tight hamstring.
In his first over, South Africa's Andile Phehlukwayo broke the partnership with 60 on the board when he induced an edge from Tamim that was held by wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock.
Soumya had made a dazzling 42 in 30 balls when his aggression got the better of him with a miscued hook off Chris Morris that was well caught by the diving de Kock.
With part-time bowlers Aiden Markram and JP Duminy filling in for the absent Ngidi and Dale Steyn sidelined again by a shoulder injury, South Africa's bowling attack was hardly threatening as Shakib reached his fifty with ease.
Du Plessis was visibly frustrated, gesticulating angrily as Shakib and Mushfiqur took their partnership past a hundred runs.
Imran Tahir delivered a desperately needed breakthrough on his 100th ODI appearance, the 40-year-old spinner breaking the 142-run stand when he bowled the sweeping Shakib.
Mushfiqur perished after a risky slog off Phehlukwayo to leave Bangladesh on 250 or five in the 43rd over.
But after going six overs without a boundary, Bangladesh finished their innings with a flourish thanks to powerful stroke-play from Mahmudullah (46 not out) and Mosaddek Hossain (26).

Bangladesh's innings report:
Bangladesh posted their highest one-day international score as ferocious hitting from Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan took them to 330 for six against South Africa.
Mushfiqur made 78 from 80 balls and Shakib's 75 came from 84 balls as the pair combined in a 142-run partnership.

Amla has been sidelined:
South Africa are without injured Hashim Amla in today's match.
Amla sustained a head injury in that chastening loss after being hit on the helmet by a bouncer from England pace bowler Jofra Archer.
David Miller and Chris Morris came into the South Africa line-up to replace Amla and Dwaine Pretorius.
South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn was still out with a shoulder injury, but spinner Imran Tahir, at 40 the oldest player in this edition of the World Cup, made his 100th one-day international appearance.
"We're playing an extra seamer today for extra pace so as normal it's about making the most of the first 15 overs and causing Bangladesh some problems," Du Plessis said.
"We've got to learn from the previous game. We did well to restrict England to just over 300 and we were only one partnership away from really troubling England."
Tamim Iqbal was declared fit for Bangladesh after a wrist injury.
Bangladesh were playing their first match in this year's tournament and captain Mashrafe Mortaza said: "We are very much confident. We have to play well and play hard."

Mortaza hopes:
Mashrafe Mortaza hopes to be fit to captain the team despite suffering a hamstring strain while bowling during their warm-up match against India on Tuesday "A lot of times in such cases I face trouble bowling the first one or two overs. Once I get through that, I don't face any more problems," he told Dhaka-based bdnews24.
"But I pulled a hamstring during the sixth over," he added. "I could have stopped after four or five overs but Rohit (Sharma) and (Virat) Kohli were looking to score runs quickly during that period. I felt that I needed to practise bowling in such a situation."
Tamim Iqbal did not play against India due to a thigh strain, but the opener is expected to be fit to face South Africa.

Du Plessis says:
Ahead of the match, South African skipper said, "This is where it's important for us to make sure that you look at the World Cup for what it is. You know, you're going to play games. You're going to come up against quality opposition."
"England were better than us in all three facets of the game. They showed why they are such a good cricket team, and now we have to look at the league. It's a league competition.
"For me, it's about making sure we look at the areas that we got it wrong and just move on."
South Africa's disciplined bowling against England gives Du Plessis reason to believe they still have plenty to offer.

Preview:
South Africa captain Faf du Plessis has challenged his side to make amends for the painful start to their World Cup campaign as they aim to bounce back against Bangladesh.
The Proteas suffered a 104-run thrashing against hosts England in the tournament's opening match on Thursday.
South Africa restricted England to manageable 311 for 8 on a tricky pitch at the Oval but, tormented by Jofra Archer's pace and bounce, their run chase never got going. Dismissed for 207 by England, South Africa's bid to win the World Cup for the first time is off to the worst possible start.
But they have a chance to get back on track when they return to the Oval to face Bangladesh and Du Plessis says now is not the time to panic.
The lengthy nature of the 10-team group stage, in which each country plays nine matches and the top four make the semi-finals, gives South Africa time to recover, a point Du Plessis was keen to emphasise to his players.
