Despite a sluggish start in the first set, he came back well in the second set to stay in the match. Sumit Nagal unfortunately couldn't hold his end in a very tightly contested third set losing it 7-5 gainst Corentin Moutet.

A close first set was followed by a disappointing performance in the second set. The third set unfortunately wasn't any better for India leading to their defeat against the Netherlands in the quarter-final, ending their campaign in the women's team archery event.

Veteran Table Tennis player and India’s flag bearer at the Summer Games 2024, Sharath Kamal, failed to win his single’s first round. Sharath (WR 40) lost to WR 126 Deni Kozul 2-4. 

Medal contender in boxing, India’s Nikhat Zareen, moved to the round of 16 with a 5-0 win over Maxi Carina Kloetzer at the Paris Games. 

Zareen will next face China's Wu Yu on August 1 at 02:30 pm IST in the round of 16.

The two Indian swimmers, Srihari Nataraj and Dhinidhi Desinghu, have failed to advance past the heats in the men’s 100m backstroke and women’s 200m freestyle events, respectively. 

They should have finished within the top 16 to qualify for the semis.

While Srihari finished 33rd in the overall standings with a timing of 55.01, the 14-year-old Desinghu finished 23rd in the overall standings at 02:06.96.

More good news for the Indian shooting contingent as Arjun Babuta is through to the men’s 10m air rifle final. He is now the third Indian shooter after medallists Manu Bhaker and Ramita Jindal to enter the gold medal match. 

India won its first medal at the Paris Olympics in 2024, a bronze. 

Ace shooter Manu Bhaker, 22, became the first Indian women’s shooter and fifth overall to win an Olympic medal.

During the women’s 10m air pistol final in Paris, Manu finished third with a score of 221.7 and won the bronze medal. 

South Korea’s OH Ye Jin won the gold medal with an Olympic record of 243.2, while her compatriot won the silver with 241.3.

Top-ranked paddler Sreeja Akula won her R64 game in the women's singles in Table Tennis at Paris Olympics 2024, beating Christina Kallberg (WR 58) 4-0. With this, she qualified for the R32.

India’s shooting contingent continues to make headlines, as Ramita Jindal becomes the second shooter after Manu Bhaker to enter a gold medal match at the Paris Olympic Games 2024. 

Ramita finished 5th with a score of 631.5 in the women’s 10m air rifle qualifying event, and with this win, she became the first Indian since Suma Shirur in 2004 to reach the final in this event. 

Meanwhile, Elavenil Valarivan missed the top-8 finish, as she secured the 10th spot with a score of 630.7.
 

India’s Balraj Panwar finishes 2nd in the Repechage race in rowing, clocking 7:12.41 to qualify for the quarter-final of Men’s Singles Sculls at the Paris Olympics 2024. 
 

Ace India shuttler PV Sindhu began her quest for an eluded Olympic gold medal with a comfortable win over Maldives Fathimath Abdul Razzaq 21-9 and 21-6 in her first group game at the Paris Olympic Games 2024.

PV Sindhu will face Kristin Kuuba on July 31 at 12:50 pm IST in her next game. A win against Kristin will confirm her spot in the round of 16.

For India, the second day of the Paris Olympic Games 2024 brings the chance to bag medals in two disciplines. While Manu Bhaker will headline the women's 10m air pistol event final scheduled at 3:30 PM IST, the women's archery team will compete in the final later in the day (at 8:30 PM), which remains subject to qualification.

Two medal hopes for India in different disciplines - PV Sindhu in badminton and Nikhat Zareen in boxing will be in action later on day 2. 

Besides, TT veteran Sharath Kamal and Shrihari Nataraj and the second-youngest Indian athlete ever, Dhinidhi Desinghu, in swimming will make their respective first appearances at the Paris Olympics 2024. 

From shooting to badminton to table tennis to boxing, plenty of athletes will be in action on day 2 of Paris Olympic Games 2024.
