Paris Olympics 2024 Day 1, Highlights: India close day with narrow 3-2 win over New Zealand in hockey

Record Olympic champions India kick-started their 2024 Paris Olympic journey on a winning note after a narrow 3-2 win over New Zealand. Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored a late penalty corner to seal India's win on the opening day in men's hockey. 

Satwik Sairaj, Chirag Shetty register comfortable win in the first group stage match. 

Belgian Remco Evenepoel added Olympic gold to his world title on Saturday, defying rain and a strong field to win the 32.4km individual time trial in Paris.

Argentina bounced back from the chaos of their opening game in the Olympic men's football tournament to beat Iraq 3-1 on Saturday, while Spain got the better of 10-man Dominican Republic.

Two-time gold medallists Argentina began their campaign at the Paris Games with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Morocco on Wednesday in Saint-Etienne in a match marred by crowd trouble.

India's badminton player Lakshya Sen and Table Tennis player Harmeet Desai won their respective opening matches and advanced to the next round.

Grace Brown wins the women's individual time trial in road cycling for Australia.

France beat South Africa 19-5 to reach the final to much rejoice for the home fans.

Netherlands beat South Africa 5-3 while Australia manage 1-0 win over Argentina.

After bagging the first gold of the Paris Games 2024, Chinese duo of Chen and Chang bag another gold for their country.

The pair won in synchronised 3m springboard diving.

After India's Mixed team failed to qualify for the medal round, Sarabjot and Arjun also failed to reach medal round of men's 10m air pistol individual event!!

Sarabjot finished 9th while top eight qualified and Arjun finished 19th.

China has become the first country to win a gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event. While Germany stood second, Kazakhstan won the bronze medal.

The Indian teams failed to reach the medal matches in this event. 

The two Indian pairs of Arjun Babuta-Ramita Jindal and Sandeep Singh-Elavenil Valarivan failed to qualify for the medal events in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event in Shooting. 

While Arjun and Ramita finished in the sixth spot with a score of 628.7, Sandeep and Elaveni finished in the 12th position, with their score reading 626.3.

With this result, India is officially out of the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event.

China (632.2), Korea (631.4), Kazakhstan (630.8), and Germany (629.7) make the 10m air rifle mixed team medal matches. 

Heavy rain forced a 48-hour postponement of the Olympic men's street skateboarding competition, organisers said Saturday.

A statement from Paris 2024 organisers said the preliminary rounds and final of the event, due to take place on Saturday, will now be held on Monday.

"Due to adverse overnight weather conditions and following a meeting this morning with all relevant organisers, the decision has been taken to postpone men's street skateboarding at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games until Monday 29th of July," the statement read. 

India's Balraj Panwar finished fourth in Rowing Men's Singles Sculls Heats 1 with a time of 7:07.11. With this, he confirmed his participation in the repechage round on Sunday (July 28).

Plenty of Indian athletes will be in action on day one of the Paris Olympics 2024, but only one medal event in Shooting (Mixed 10m Air Rifle) is scheduled.
