Jwala Gutta slams Saina Nehwal for threatening to pull out of Commonwealth Games

Ace India doubles badminton player Jwala Gutta on Wednesday slammed fellow athlete and Olympic bronze medallist Saina Nehwal for threatening to pull out of the Commonwealth Games 2018 in Gold Coast if her father wasn't allowed to enter the Games Village due to accreditation issues.

Saina, in a series of tweets, had vented her anger, surprised that her father, Harvir Singh’s, name was missing from the officials’ list and was not allowed to enter the Games Village.

"Surprise to see that when we started from India for commonwealth games 2018 my father was confirmed as the team official and I paid the whole amount for that but when we came to the games village ... his name was cut from team official category .. and he can’t even stay with me," Saina said.

Saina’s tantrum was not received well by Gutta, who took to her Twitter handle to criticise her decision.

Sainaeven sent a letter to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) secretary general Rajeev Mehta saying she would not play her matches if her father did not get his accreditation as was promised earlier.

Fearing another controversy ahead of the Games, the IOA on Tuesday cleared Harvir Singh's CWG games village accommodation which now means that he can watch Saina's matches.

Reacting to the decision, Saina thanked the IOA for sorting out the issue in a tweet: "Thank u so much @ioaindia for the support and help sorting out my father's accreditation card in such short notice ..Hopefully it will b great for the matches ahead ..and I m sorry for all the trouble."

Meanwhile, retired professional shooter Abhinav Bindra too attacked Saina by tweeting, “Am sure as a member of the @olympics Athletes committee you are well aware of accreditation protocols. Wishing you all the best for the CWG.”
