IPL 2024: KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer fined for slow over rate against Rajasthan Royals

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR0 captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined for slow overrate in his side’s Indian Premier League (IPL) contest against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Tuesday (April 16). Iyer, was fined$14000at the conclusion of the matchby the match referee. He therefore becomes the fourth captain after Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant to be fined for slow overrate.

Iyer slapped with fine

"Shreyas Iyer, the Kolkata Knight Riders captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens on April 17," BCCI's statement read.

The fine adds more misery to the KKR side, who lost their first contest at home in the IPL 2024 to Rajasthan Royals after Jos Buttler ran riot with the bat. He scored an unbeaten ton for the second time this season which helped the away side win by two wickets at the Eden Gardens. The result also saw RR establish an iron grip over the playoff places.

As things stand RR are top of the pile with 12 points from seven matches and have lost only one match. On the other hand, KKR have lost two matches and have 10 points in seven matches.

Iyer is not the first captain to be slapped with a fine in the IPL 2024, with Gill having been fined for a slow overrate against Chennai Super Kings in March. Both Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant have also faced fines on separate occasions in the IPL 2024. Another similar offence will see the captains get a suspension for slowoverrate.

KKR are next in action on Sunday against struggling Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens. The match will be a great opportunity for KKR to bounce back in the season and compete for the second playoff spot. RR, on the other hand, will face Mumbai Indians at home on Monday which will be another huge contest for the side.
