IPL 2024: Blow to SRH as Wanindu Hasaranga gets ruled out of the tournament

SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) will be without the services of their ace spinner Wanindu Hasaranga for the remainder of the IPL season, it has officially been confirmed.The spin-bowling all-rounder was initially supposed to join the SRH camp after the first few matches but the aggravation of his left-heel injury means he will miss the tournament.

According to a report in the Sunday Times (Sri Lanka), Hasaranga will travel to Dubai to meet a podiatrist for expert advice on managing the troubled heel. The procedure has been recommended by SLC's (Sri Lanka Cricket) physiotherapy department.

“He is not taking part in the IPL as he needs to do some rehabilitation after meeting the podiatrist,” SLCCEO Ashley de Silva was quoted as saying.

“There’s a swelling in the heel and he has been playing with injections. So he has decided to get this issue sorted out before the World Cup and informed us of his decision to skip the IPL this year.”

The news of Hasaranga missing out on the tournament comes when SRH faceGujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (Mar 31). While SRH have started the tournament decently, winning and losing one apiece, his absence would certainly be felt as the team had better balance with him in it.

Hasaranga was plucked by the 2016 champions at last year's auction for Rs 1.5 crore after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) released him.

The all-rounder was recently seen in action during the ODI series against Bangladesh and was also picked for the ongoing Test series as well. However, he is serving a two-Testban after being found guilty of breaching ICC Code of Conduct.

The all-rounder's accumulated demerit points reached eight within a 24-month period following a Level 2 offence for which he received a 50 per cent fine and three demerit points.
