A thick blanket of smog engulfed Delhi-NCR on Friday, a day after Diwali, raising fears of high pollution levels in the city, similar to what the city witnessed last year. Though many parts of the city witnessed high levels of Air Quality Index, the overall situation was better than last year. Seen here is a smog-engulfed flyover in Delhi on November 1, 2016.

The bad air quality was cited as one of the prime reasons by a group of petitioners who moved Supreme Court seeking ban on firecrackers on Diwali. The court accepted their plea & enforced a ban till November 1.

Some of the areas in Delhi, like Anand Vihar, witnessed very high level of pollutants, most notably the PM 2.5, which when enters the blood stream, can cause severe health hazards.

RK Puram in South Delhi was one of the most-polluted areas in Delhi. The AQI index here was 978. An AQI level of 0-50 is considered "good", 51-100 "satisfactory", 101-200 "moderate", 201-300 "poor", 301-400 "very poor", and 401 and above is "severe".
