Golf: PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passes away at 30

PGA Tour golfer Grayson Murray has passed away at the young age of 30, announced the tour. He died one day after withdrawing from Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Wrath, Texas USA. He had won Sony Open in Hawaii in 2024 only for his maiden PGA Tour victory. The cause of death has still not been revealed.

"We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words,” Jay Monahan, PGA Tour commissioner, said. “The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.

“I reached out to Grayson’s parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play,” Monahan added. “They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes.”

Murray hailed from Raleigh, North Carolina and had gained widespread fame by winning three consecutive IMG Junior World title from 2006-08. He made his Korn Ferry Tour debut at the age of 16 - the second youngest in the tour's history and played in the U.S. Open at the age of 19.

“Grayson was the absolute best. Not only was he an incredible, thoughtful and generous boss, he was an even better friend,” Murray's caddie Jay Green said in a statement, according to Golf Channel.

World no. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler also expressed remorse on Murray's sudden demise and said to reporters after Schwab Challenge third round: "I got to know Grayson a bit better over the last six months or so and, yeah, really just, there’s not really a way to put into words how sad and tragic it is, but I’m thinking about his family.”
