Commonwealth Games: Shooter Shreyasi Singh bags gold in double-trap event

26-year-old Shreyasi shot 96 in the finals tobeat Australia's Emma Cox 2 shots to 1 in the shoot-off at Belmont Shooting Centre.The other Indian contender in the field, Varsha Varman finished fourth with 86.

Shreyasi helped India bag its 12th gold medal at the CWG.

The bronze medal went to Scotland's Linda Pearson who shot 87 to finish a point ahead of Varsha, who held the third place for a while.

Shreyasi improved on her silver medal-winning effort at the Glasgow Games four years ago.

"I'm feeling really well. In 2014, I won the silver and I was really upset that I couldn't win the gold but now, also I was trailing, but when I got the opportunity to fight more and fight harder in the shoot off, I was really happy about that, and I gave it 100 per cent," Shreyasi said after her gold medal-winning effort.

"Emma (COX, AUS) is of course a brilliant competitor to be winning the gold medal against, so lots of wishes to her. She shot really well, too. But I think god is on my side and I'm feeling really lucky," India's golden girl said.

Earlier today,Indian shooter Om Prakash Mitharval bagged a bronze medal in men's 5m pistol.Mitharvalscored a total of 201.1 in the finals to clinch the third place in the event.

On Tuesday, Heena Sidhu had bagged gold in the women's 25m air pistol event as she broke the Commonwealth Games record by posting 38 points in the 25m category.

The 28-year-old had already clinched a silver in the women's 10m air pistol category.
