World's richest cricket board (BCCI), faced a major embarrassment on Saturday after a blooper on its official website - www.bcci.tv. The websitewent downfor almost a day. Theproblem occurred due to failure in renewing the domain name.
The domain was valid from 2-2-2006 to 2-2-2019. The renewal was due on or before February 3, 2018. The board's website was acting up until Sunday evening even as the senior national men's team wasplaying the second ODI against South Africa at the Centurion.
Website registrars register.com and namejet.com had put the domain name up for public bidding, receiving seven bids so far with the highest of $270.
In 2008 Lalit Modi, first Chairman and Commissioner of the Indian Premier League had bought the domain name from register.com inhis name.
In 2010 Modi suffered a ban for life by the BCCI and suspended from all the acting responsibilities but he did not transfer the intellectual property.
Modi didn'ttransfer the rights to the BCCI, the BCCI had filed a case against him in 2013. The case is pending in the Bombay High Court, the Court had asked Modi’s lawyers in 2014 to give an undertaking of co-operating on all operational fronts until a judgement is passed.
