Ashes 2019: England's James Anderson ruled out of second Test due to calf injury

England's fast bowler James Anderson has been ruled out of the second Test of the Ashes series owing to a calf injury, said England's cricket board in a statement.
Ahead of the Ashes series, Anderson was missing in action a month after he had picked up a calf injury playing for Lancashire in the County Championship.
The injury aggravatedduring the series opener when he left the field after bowling just four overs in the first innings. He managed to batin both innings but with restricted movements.
He has now been ruled out of the next match, which starts at Lord's on August14.
The ECB said in a statement that the pacer underwent an MRI scan this week and that it confirmed a calf issue.
"As a result of the injury, he will commence a rehabilitation programme working with the England and Lancashire medical teams," the statement added.

The ECB said Anderson's chances of playing in the rest of the series would be reassessed on "an ongoing basis".
