Qureshi said he would visit Kabul soon to initiate "new beginnings" between the two countries.

Pakistan's newly appointed Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, on Monday, delivered his first addressed wherein he called for fostering peaceful ties with Pakistan's neighbours.

Qureshi stated that Pakistan's foreign policy will focus on boosting ties with the neighbouring nations at the same time will ensure safeguarding Pakistan's interests.

He said he would visit Kabul soon to initiate "new beginnings" between the two countries.

With respect to India, Qureshi raised the Kashmir issue stating that it is something that needs to be addressed and acknowledged.

"I want to tell the Indian foreign minister that we are not just neighbours, we are atomic powers. We have a lot of common resources," he said.

"India and Pakistan have to move forward keeping realities before them," Qureshi declared.

Afghanistan and India have long accused Pakistan of its inability to crack down on cross-border militant attacks.

Islamabad has levelled similar allegations against Kabul and accuses India of carrying out unprovoked firing and attacks along the disputed Line of Control.

Qureshi served as Pakistan's foreign minister from 2008 to 2011 under the Pakistan Peoples Party government. He later joined Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
