Trump's solidarity message on Sri Lanka blasts goes wrong; tweets out 'heartfelt condolences' on death of '138 million people'

The US leader erroneously wrote that 138 million people were killed in the attacks.

''Heartfelt condolences from the people of the United States to the people of Sri Lanka on the horrible terrorist attacks on churches and hotels that have killed at least 138 million people and badly injured 600 more. We stand ready to help!'' Trump tweeted.

However, thistweet was deletedafter a few minutes from the account.

Later Trump tweeted again offering condolences to the great people of Sri Lanka, ''138 people have been killed in Sri Lanka, with more that 600 badly injured, in a terrorist attack on churches and hotels. The United States offers heartfelt condolences to the great people of Sri Lanka. We stand ready to help!''

Sri Lanka on Sunday afternoon was rocked by eight blasts targeting luxury hotels and churches in the capital city Colombo.

So far, over 160 are reportedly dead and around 400 people are severely injured.

Several religious leaders and politicians have strongly condemned the Sri Lanka attacks.

The Sri Lankan government imposed a nationwide curfew Sunday that police said would go into effect immediately and would last "until further notice", after a string of deadly blasts.

Sri Lanka's government said Sunday it would impose a "temporary" social media ban after a string of blasts targeting hotels and churches killed nearly 160 people.

The explosions are being billed as the major attacks since the end of the civil war a decade ago.
