SP targets Tendulkar, Rekha over poor attendance in Rajya Sabha

India's beloved cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar and Bollywood actor Rekha have come under renewed attack in the Rajya Sabha for their prolonged absence.

Naresh Chandra Agrawal, Samajwadi PartyRajya Sabha memberraised the issue of their absence in India's Upper House. This is not the first time Tendulkar and Rekha have been questioned over their poor attendance, other members in the Rajya Sabha have raised the issue earlier.

Naresh Chandra Agrawal demanded that Tendulkar and Rekha should resign from their post.As per Article 104 of the Constitution, if a member is absent from either House of Parliament for a period of 60 days then the seat is considered vacant,the two celebrity members have definitely crossed the mark.

Both Rekha and Tendulkar are known to be the worst performers with less than 6 per cent attendance, according to a survey.

Rekha's attendance was 10% during the budget session this yearwhile Tendulkarwas even worse witha disappointing 5%. The nationalaverage is 78% between June1, 2009 and March 27,2017,according to media reports.

Neither Sachin nor Rekha have ever participated in adebatein the Upper House. As a matter of fact, the Rajya Sabha members are not known for their involvement in the Question Hour either,animperative process to bring out administrative lapses. Sachin has asked only two questions, the first one in 2015, almost three years after his appointment.

In 2012, when Tendulkar was nominated to Rajya Sabha as an independent candidate with the support of Congress, the nation looked forward to his contribution in the sports ministry but he has clearly failed in his duty.

This is not the first time that Rekha and Sachin have been criticised for their poor performance.

In fact, in 2014, Sachin was slammed for attending only three sessions in 2013 and none in 2014. Meanwhile, Bollywood actor Rekhahasattended the Rajya Sabhaonly seven times.
