The Calcutta High Court has directed the central government to send four more companies of CRPF to Darjeeling within the next two days.
The Centre reacted immediately saying, "four additional companies of CRPF arebeing sent tomaintain law and order in Darjeeling and Kalimpong."
"CRPF companies deployed in Darjeeling area shall only beutilised by the West Bengal govt to maintain law and order," the Centre asserted.
On Wednesday night, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration tourist information office at Chowrasta in Darjeeling was set on fire by a mob.
The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha along with other hill parties a few days ago had decided to go on fast-unto-death to press the Bengal government for a separate state of Gorkhaland.
