Myanmar army launches operation against insurgent group on India-Myanmar border

The Myanmar Army has launched a massive crackdown operation against North East insurgent groups including NSCN (K) on India-Myanmar border, Zee Media sources reported.

The Intelligence report submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs revealedthat NSCN(K) is worried over the presence of Myanmar Army around its CentralHeadquarters in TAGA. The insurgent group recently held a meeting with their Ceasefire Monitoring Committeeand discussed Myanmar army threat to arrest their cadre and hand them over to Indian Government.

As per the report, Myanmar Army restricted the movement of NSCN/K Chairman Khango Konyak beyond Hangsenand instructed them to return in Taga area. There is fear among NSCN/K that Myanmar Army may arrest theirtop leaders and handover to Indian Government.

Due to fear of arrest by Myanmar Army, many insurgent group leaders are hiding at an unspecified location in theJungle. Some Intercept of Insurgent group reveals that they are not finding Myanmar border a conducive place against India.

The spokesperson of banned NSCN-K, Isak Sumi has claimed that all the NSCN-K cadre were safe in the wakeof the attacked launched against it by the Myanmar Army.

Isak Sumi in his Facebook post says: “The on-going standoff between the Myanmar Army and the Naga Armyhas temporarily been resolved without untoward incident but Naga Army had to make a tactical withdrawal.The overall situation is still tense but the Naga Army are re-entrenched again and safe. Requesting prayer to all the loved ones.” Here he has referred to NSCN-K as Naga Army.

It may be mentioned that the NSCN-K has been maintaining its base in Myanmar and has provided logistic support and training to many other militant outfits from Northeastern region especially those from Assam and Manipur including the ULFA (Independent), NDFB (S), PLA etc., in its base.
