A day after the Members of Parliament were blocked from entering the Parliament, the MPs were thrown out of the Parliament today by the military.
Maldives' President Abdulla Yameen previously quashed the Supreme Court's directive to release nine prisoners calling the directive "unconstitutional".
"If a Supreme Court ruling erodes the democratic principle of separating powers, then the government and the president has an obligation to address it", Yameen shared in an official statement.
The Supreme Court called for an immediate release of former president Mohamed Nasheed along with eight other opposition leaders. The apex court also demanded their fresh trials noting the previous proceedings to have violated the constitution and international law.
The former president and other eight leaders face charges ranging from terrorism to treason and corruption.
President Abdulla Yameen declared a state of emergency in the country and ordered the arrest of Former President of Maldives Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed, Supreme Court Justice Ali Hameed and Judicial administrator Hassan Saeed.

Police said it had brought former president Abdul Gayoom, Chief Justice Al Ustaz Abdhullah Saeed, Supreme Court judge Ali Hameed among others into custody to investigate the case.
