Khalsa aid starts langar sewa for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh

The organisation got permission from the Bangladesh government and started the sewa on Thursday
The Sikh volunteers from Khalsa Aid(India) arrived in Bangladesh last week to provide free langar(community kitchen service whichprovides food) to the Rohingya refugeeswho have fled Myanmar after violence spread. On Thursday, the volunteersfinally got the go-ahead from the Bangladesh government to start Guru ka langar.
Khalsa Aid said that they had got thepermissionfrom the Bangladesh government to serve meals to the refugees, media report said.
The team said its immediate priority was to provide the refugees with water and food. The daily langar has been set up for almost 35,000 Rohingyarefugees.
The langar sewa(service) began at a spot on Shahpuri Island where Rohingya refugees have beenlanding fromMyanmar.
“These people are arriving in a desperate state. I have never seen anyone so relieved for a drink of water. They have no money to pay for public transport to the refugee camps. Local rickshaws have increased their rates because of the heightened demand so we have organised transportation to take families safely to the refugee camps.” Amarpreet Singh, Khalsa Aid Directorsaid.
