What's happened to the Indian Rs 500 and Rs 1000 bank notes since demonetisation started?

On November 8, the Indian government demonetised -- itwithdrew from circulation notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 (worth around $7and $15respectively) to crack down on "black money",or undeclaredcash.

The Indian public were given until December 31, or 52 days, to exchange these notes at banks.
