India is keeping a close eye on the constitution crisis unfolding on the island of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena sacked Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Friday. On Saturday, he suspended Parliament till November 16.
Wickremesinghe meanwhile has called the move "unconstitutional", and vowed to prove his majority in Parliament.
Government sources have told WION that the "internal developments" in Colombo are being watched with concern, particularly as Wickremesinghe's outster comes just a week after he visited New Delhi.
Over the last few weeks, it had become increasingly clear that President Sirisena and Wickremasinghe had fallen out. The latter man was seen as being close to New Delhi and opposed to the increasing influence of China.
