
Former Pakistan prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan was arrested from outside the Islamabad High Court on Tuesday (May 9).PTI Vice President Fawad Chaudhry alleged in a tweet that Khan was abducted from the court premises, and many lawyers were tortured.
"Imran Khan has been whisked away by unknown people to an unknown location, CJ Islamabad High Court has ordered Secy Interior and IG police to appear within 15 min in the court," he saidin his tweet.
Cricketer-turned-politician Khan was arrested in connection with a corruption case, according to a report by Geo TV.
Khan was taken away in a van by dozens of security personnelwearing riot control gear, according to video of the arrest that Khan'sparty released.
The party has issued a call for protests to begin throughout Pakistan, as perPTI leader Azhar Mashwani'stweet.
PTI also tweeted a video of an injured man with blood stains on his shirt, claiming Imran Khan's lawyer was "badly injured" inside the court premises of IHC. "Black day for our democracy and country," it said.
Over 100 lawsuits have been filed against Khan since he was ousted from office by a parliamentary vote in April of last year, including this one concerning graft. Of his five-year term, he served four.
There have been violent confrontations in the past when authorities tried to arrest Khan from his Lahore residence.
