An explosion in the western part of Afghanistan has killed seven civilians and has injured another 16, CNN reports.
A spokesman for Herat's governor, Jilani Farhad, said the blast took place at about 3 pm local time, near the northern gate of the Great Mosque of Herat, CNN reports.
Farhad told CNNan investigation is still underway.
Reuters cites officials who say that explosives were believed to be hidden in a motorcycle left in a parking area outside the Jama Masjid, a large 12th century mosque known for intricate blue tiles. Near the border with Iran, Herat is one of Afghanistan's largest cities.
