Bangladesh crisis: Interim gov led by Nobel winner Muhammad Yunus to take oath on Thursday

Bangladesh’s Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus is set to become the head of the country's interim government on Thursday (Aug 8), according to Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled forlate in theevening onThursday.

1. The army chief said the advisory council to be led by Mr Yunus may have 15 members.

2. "I'm looking forward to going back home, see what's happening and how we can organise ourselves to get out of the trouble we are in," Yunus told reporters at Paris' airport on Wednesday.

3. Yunus has asked for calm after weeks of violence in which at least 455 people were killed. "If we take the path of violence everything will be destroyed," he added.

4. Yunus said he wanted to hold elections "within a few" months.
