Afghanistan: Rift appears over choosing new Islamic State leader

The Islamic State seems to grapple with a divide in opinion over choosing its new leader in the Jawzjan province. Its previous chief, Qari Hekmat, was killed in an air strike on Friday.

Hekmat's supporters declared Qari Habib Rahman as the new leader of the northern provinces.

According to Xinhua news agency, Qari Habib Rahman was chosen as the new leader but other IS fighters, including the ones from Uzbekistan, challenged his leadership.
