
A team of astronomers said that they have detected a new young and warm exoplanet orbiting a distant star which is estimated to be similar in size and mass to Jupiter.
The findings, which were published on April 3 in the pre-print server arXiv, revealed that the newfound alien world has been designated TOI-4862 b (or NGTS-30 b).
"With a moderate eccentricity of 0.294, its equilibrium temperature could be expected to vary from 274 K to 500 K over the course of its orbit," the research mentioned.
The study said that the new long-period transiting exoplanet was detected by the astronomers following up on a single-transit candidate found in the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration's TESS has identified more than 7,100 candidate exoplanets (TESS Objects of Interest, or TOI). The study said that out of the total, 432 have been confirmed so far.
The satellite has been conducting a survey of about 200,000 of the brightest stars near the sun. It focuses on searching for transiting exoplanets.
The prime mission of TESS ended on July 4, 2020, but it currently in an extended mission. NASA once said in its report that TESS is finding planets ranging from small, rocky worlds to giant planets, showcasing the diversity of planets in the galaxy.

A group of astronomers led by Matthew Battley of the University of Geneva in Switzerland has confirmed another TOI monitored by TESS.
The astronomers have identified a transit signal in the light curve of the exoplanet, which is a young G-type star located some 762 light years away.
The researchers wrote in the paper: "NGTS-30 b/TOI-4862 b was first discovered via a single transit in TESS photometry, before archival photometry from NGTS [Next Generation Transit Survey] and EulerCam were used to refine the planetary period."
