Clashes erupt in Kashmir after Eid prayers

Protestors clashed with Indian security forces after Eid prayers in some parts of Kashmir, mainly Anantnag, Pulwama, Sopore, Pattan (of Baramulla district) and Srinagar.

Cases of stone-pelting were recorded in Janglat Mandi and Anantnag where protestors and security forces clashed after Eid prayers.

Police and security forces had to use tear-gas shells to disband the protesters in Anantnag.

"The security forces are exercising maximum restraint while dealing with the stone-pelting mob at these places," a senior police officer at Srinagar district said.

Protesters raised Pakistan flags and shouted pro-Pakistan slogans while clashing with security forces in Srinagar.

Kashmir has been on the boil for several months with clashes reported across the region.

The Islamic fasting month of Ramzan, which ended with the Eid al-Fitr feast has seen several clashes between security forces and Kashmiri protesters.

Kashmir has been in a constant state of unrest since Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed on June 8, 2016.

An angry mob lynched a police officer to death outside a mosque in Kashmir on Thursday night.

Mohammad Ayub Pandith was taking pictures with his mobile phone outside the Jamia Masjid mosque in Srinagar during the festival of Lailat-ul-Qadr, when he was confronted by a group of people and lynched to death.
