A satirical Instagram page called the “Cockroach Janta Party” has rapidly gained traction online, drawing attention for its parody-style political messaging, surreal campaign graphics and dark humour. The account, which presently has 14.1 million followers on instagram, presents itself as a fictional political outfit. It has now entered mainstream social media discourse after several public figures from the entertainment industry began following it on Instagram. The page describes itself through tongue-in-cheek slogans and exaggerated political satire, turning the imagery of cockroaches into a metaphor for survival, chaos and public frustration. Its sudden rise has fuelled widespread curiosity across social media platforms.
What triggered the movement?
The trigger came after Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant remarked during a hearing, ‘…there are already parasites who attack the system, and you want to join them. There are youngsters like cockroaches who do not get any employment…some of them become media, some become social media, some RTI activists and they start attacking everyone”, comments that sparked anger across social media. Though Kant later clarified that the remarks were aimed at people using fraudulent degrees and not India’s youth, the backlash had already taken a life of its own.
