In a statement, the Paris Games organising committee said, "Vinesh failed the second-day weigh-in. According to Article 11 of the International Wrestling Rules, Vinesh (IND) will be replaced by the wrestler who lost against her in the Semifinal. Therefore, Yusneylis Guzman Lopez (CUB) will compete in the Final. Repechage Yui Susaki (Japan) vs Oksana Livach (Ukraine) will become the Bronze Medal Match." Earlier it was reported that the 50kg category will only have gold and bronze medal winners.

Flying Dutchman Harrie Lavreysen set a new world record in the men's 200 metres flying lap as he topped the time sheets in qualification for the Olympic track cycling sprint on Wednesday. Another day of searing pace on the National Velodrome boards began with Australian Matthew Richardson first breaking the world record set by Trinidad and Tobago's Paul Nicholas in 2019.

Richardson clocked 9.091 seconds to beat Nicholas's existing mark of 9.100 set at high altitude in Bolivia. But he did not hold the record for long as the 27-year-old Lavreysen, fresh from his team sprint gold on Tuesday, bombed around the track to clock 9.088, averaging 79kph.

Antim Panghal's run ends at the Paris Games ends with no repechage round. Her opponent Yetgil Zeynep lost in the quarter-finals and, hence, the 19-year-old won't have a chance to compete in the repêchage round. Not a good day for the Indian wrestlers!

Just like in hockey, India's women's TT team also lost to Germany 1-3 in the quarterfinals. Manika Batra, Sreeja Akula and Achana Kamath fell short of a berth in the top 4.

Meanwhile, wrestler Antim Pangal went down in her opening bout against Turkey's Zeynep Yetgil in the round of 16 of the women's freestyle 53kg event. Despite the defeat with a final score of 0-10, Panghal's Paris 2024 run isn't over yet. She still has a chance to compete in the repechage round provided Yetgil enters the final.

According to Olympic wrestling manuals, wrestlers are required to fulfill strict weight criteria, meaning no wrestler can be overweight or underweight. As per the first-hand report, Vinesh was found 100 grams overweight, meaning she became eligible to compete in the final. The rule book also states that wrestlers are required to measure their weight before they enter the bouts.

India's Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified from the 50kg freestyle wrestling category and will therefore return empty-handed. 

Suraj Panwar and Priyanka Goswami are in mixed marathon race walk action as they look to clinch an improbable medal.
