
Tacos usually are a quick-prep comfort food that can be easily customised to one's own preference. However, a Mexican chef has giventhe snack a glittery, glamorous makeover.
The Grand Velas Los Cabos', a luxury resort in Mexico has come up with its own variant of the dish that comes with pricey and uncommon ingredients like shrimp,Kobe beef, caviar and lashings of gold leaf, taking the price tag up to a hard-to-swallow $25,000 (more than 13 lakhs INR).
The taco is a melange of high-end food products. So what really justifies the exorbitant price of the dish?

- This is then topped with a salsa of dried Morita chili peppers (comes from slowly smoking red ripe jalapenos over a wood fire), Ley.925 ultra-premium añejo tequila and civet coffee. The tequila is one of the finest and costliest in the world and Civet coffee is the one that has to pass through a civet’s bowel system.
- It’s all topped with more 24k gold leaf.
The chef, Licerio at the Grand Velas Los Cabos Resort clearly decided to think outside the box.
"People are excited and a little surprised about how you can eat a taco for $25,000when you can find one on the street for $0.5," he told AFP.
"Then I explain the delicacy, the technique and the harmony that they will lift from the plate, and that it's worth it."
Fortunately, the two portions in a plate are big enough to serve two.A week after the outrageously pricey dish hit the menu, no one has ordered it, the chef admitted.
Ordering the fancy taco has its own particular method. First, a customer has to put down a $12,500 deposit and already be staying in the presidential suite.
The dish is presented in the middle of the desert encircled by motorcycles, or during a marriage proposal.
If money is no object, the chef recommends to complement the taco withthe luxury tequila Pasion Azteca, at $150,000 a bottle.
