Amidwide debate over consumption of beef in the nation, vice president Venkaiah Naidu talked about people eating beef and celebrating it as a festival.

Naidu said ''you want to eat beef, eat. why festival?".

Naidu talking about beef festival could be directed to the reports of July 2017 whenstudents of IIT-Madras held a beef festival inside the campus to protest against the cattle slaughter ban.

A similar incident of people holding beef festival was also reported from Aizawl in Mizoram, India.

In past Venkaiah Naidu has addressed the beef issue; while stressing on how food is an individual's choice he said that he is a strict non-vegetarian and nobody told him to what to eat or what not.

He also addedthat "similarly,a kiss festival, if you wish to kiss why you need a festival or anyone's permission."

While addressing a public gathering he also slammed people for 'chanting' Afzal Guru's name.

He said, "then you have Afzal Guru. People chanting his name. What is happening? He tried to explode our parliament."

Security was tightened and restrictions were imposed in Jammu and Kashmir on February 8 as it was the death anniversary of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
