Will continue my struggle to end triple talaq, says India's first female imam Jamida

Jamida, who became the first female imam in India's history to lead the Juma prayers, said on Monday that despite receiving criticism she would continue her struggle to end triple talaq and achieve equal rights for women.

"I will continue my struggle to end triple talaq and bring women into the mainstream," Jamida said.

She further said those who have been criticising her, have been doing so without logic and hence were abusing and targeting her personally.

Fundamentalists have been targeting Jamidha, harassing and threatening her over the phone as well as on social media for “going against Islam”. However, Jamida is fearless.

34-year-old Jamida Teacher, the state general secretary of Quran and Sunnat society, was the imam for Juma prayers held at the mosque of Quran Sunnat Society in Malappuram district. She also led the Khutba, the speech during Juma prayers.
