BJP's Pramod Sawant on Tuesday took oath as Goa's 11th chief minister. The swearing-in ceremony took place in the wee hours, around 2am, on Tuesday. Shortly after the ceremony ended, Sawant interacted with media and stated that he will give his best to provide stability to Goa. He remembered Parrikar and said his political career began all because of the former late Goa CM.

"I will not be able to work as much as Manohar Parrikar ji but I will definitely try to work as much as possible," Sawant said shortly after taking office. He added that it was Parrikar who had brought him into politics.

"The party has given me a huge responsibility, I will try my best to carry it out in the best possible manner. Whatever I am today is all due to Manohar Parrikar. It was he who brought me to politics, I became the Speaker and the CM today, due to him," Sawant said.

Sawant took charge as Goa's chief minister after the demise of Manohar Parrikar who was battling a pancreatic ailment for a long time.

Sawant's swearing-in early Tuesday capped a hectic day of parleying between the BJP and its allies after former Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar died Sunday. He was cremated on Monday evening, and Sawant was sworn in a few hours later.

The two deputy chief ministerships were how the deadlock was broken — Dhavalikar and Sardesai had both staked a claim to the chief ministership, news agency PTI reported.

The new government was sworn in with the support of 20 MLAs, including 11 from the BJP and three each from GFP, MGP and Independents.
