After Andhra and Rajasthan, West Bengal reduces fuel prices by Rs 1

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said on Tuesday that her government has decided to reduce the prices of petrol and diesel in the state.

She said, "We have decided to reduce the price of both petrol and diesel by Re 1".

The proposalfor the reduction in fuel prices by the TMC chief has come a day afterAndhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced a decrease in petrol and diesel prices by 2 Rs each.

Earlier Rajasthan chiefminister Vasundhara Rajehad also announced a reduction in the prices of fuel in the poll-bound state.

Raje on Sunday announced a four per cent reduction in value-added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel which will translate into reducing fuel prices by Rs 2.5 per litre in the state.

The current prices of petrol in Kolkata isRs 83.61 and diesel Rs 75.68. Whereas in Hyderabad, petrol costs Rs 85.60 and diesel Rs 79.22. In Chennai, petrol costs Rs 83.91 and diesel Rs 76.98.

Trinamool Congress had meanwhile not participated in the nationwide strikeagainst the risingfuel prices on Monday.

The nationwide strike was called by the Congress with the support of 20 parties.

Petrol and diesel rates went up again on Tuesday, with the price of petrol increasing by Rs 0.14 in both Delhi and Mumbai.

Petrol price touched Rs 80.87 per litre in Delhi and Rs 88.26 per litre in Mumbai, while diesel was retailing at Rs 72.97 per litre and Rs 77 47 per litre in Delhi and Mumbai, respectively.

Fuel prices began an almost unbroken northward march since August 1. They fell only once on August 13 in the last 41 days. Prices surged on 29 days and remained unchanged on 11 days, and have been breaching record levels for more than a week now.
