We have worked tirelessly for development: PM Modi in Odisha

Prime minister Narendra Modi spoke about his government completing four years in power on Saturday and reiterated the development for all motto.

PM Modi was addressing supporters in Odisha's Cuttack city.

"Our government is focussed on development for all sectors of society. We have worked tirelessly for the development of the nation," PM Modi said at a public rally in Cuttack.

PM Modi said that voters had reposed their confidence in the BJP and that people's support had come due to development.

The prime minister said that the aspirations of the people were what kept him working.

"Your aspirations, dreams and hopes is what makes me keep working," he said.

The prime minister said that many in the coalition NDA government had lived in poverty, including the President, Vice President and the Pradhan Sevak (prime minister), which was why betterment of the poor was their biggest priority.

"Many who are in the NDA govt have lived in poverty and that is why betterment of the poor is their biggest priority. It is a government whose President, Vice President and Pradhan Sevak, all have lived in poverty," PM Modi said.

The prime minister said the nation had moved from "Kala Dhan" (black money) to "Jan Dhan" (money of the people).

"In these four years, the 125 crore Indian have come to believe that our India can change. Today the nation is going from 'Kala Dhan to 'Jan Dhan', from bad governance to good governance," PM Modi said.

Referring to his policy of demonetisation and the opposition parties uniting against the BJP, the PM said, "Chaos was caused for some when we made strict laws against black money, it made many come together and stand on the same stag, those accused in big scams are coming together now."

When a committed and not a confused government works in the country then only measures like surgical strikes are taken. It is with this commitment that we managed to bring in the one rank one pension scheme which had been stuck since decades," the prime minister said.

"We have realised the aim of giving banking access to everyone."

Taking credit for providing sanitation facilities to the people, PM Modi said that in 2014 only 39 per cent of the people had access to sanitation facilities and that the figure had increased to over 80 per cent during his governance.

"Till 2014, 39 per cent of the population had access to sanitation facilities, today the figure is over 80 per cent. From independence till 2014 there were around six crore toilets in the country but in last four years 7.5 crore toilets have been made," the prime minister said.

PM Modi also blamed the previous governments in Odisha for a lack of proper health facilities in the state. He said the central government was doing "everything it can in this direction".

"There is lack of proper health facilities in several places. Situation is worse here in Odisha. I wonder what were the previous governments doing? Even if state governments aren't carrying out their responsibilities properly, centre is doing everything it can in this direction," PM Modi said.

The prime minister also promised to address the challenges faced by the farmers of Odisha due to the Mahanadi river dispute with Chhattisgarh.

"Due to the Mahanadi water dispute, farmers of Odisha are suffering. We are committed to resolve their problems and address the challenges they have to face," PM Modi said.

"It is my good fortune that I got the opportunity to greet my 125 crore countrymen from the land of great Lord Jagannath," PM Modi said earlier. "Great freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was born in this holy land."
