We are alert: Kerala Police chief on 'IS threat messages' on social media

Kerala police chief Loknath Behera on Sunday assuaged fears of Islamic State "threat messages"on social media and said the police was on the alert.

The Director-General of Police (DGP) said a lot of threat messages, claiming to be of the IS were being spread through social media, and the police was enquiring into all aspects of such messages.

"A lot of threat messages are spread through social media, claiming to be that of IS (Islamic State). Every aspects of such messages are being enquired into by the police, including the veracity of them," Loknath Behera said.

The state police chief revealed that during enquiries, the police gave certain "alert messages" to the concerned authorities, adding that the police was keeping a watch on "critical infrastructures of public interest".

"While enquiring into such aspects, we also normally give certain alert messages to authorities concerned, as a precaution and to remain alert. We are keeping a watch on critical infrastructures of public interest. We are alert," the DGP said.

He also appealed to the people not to panic since this was a part of normal policing activities and not spread such messages.

"In this contextI would like to inform the public that these are part of normal policing activities and there is no need to panic. I also appeal to the public not to fall prey upon such messages and keep off from spreading them," the Kerala police chief said.
