A 24-year-old woman in Jaipur has been pulling out and eating her own hair.
The hair, a knot that was a foot and two inches long and 10 inches wide, weighing 1.5 kg, finally had to be removed through surgery.
Mandori Devi had complained of a severe stomach ache for a number of years.
She would vomit as soon as she ate anything.
Several hospitals were consulted but her problem could not be diagnosed.
Finally, Government Satellite Hospital in Bani Park operated on Devi to extract the hair from her stomach.
Devi looked like a normal, healthy woman but suffered from trichophagia -- a compulsive urge to eat her own hair.
Doctors say there have been 138 recorded cases of trcophagia so far.
Devi's husband had no idea about her disorder.
Devi's doctors said tha had she not been operated on, her condition could have turned life-threatening.
