Heavy rains lashed Delhi and the National Capital Region on Thursday creating severe waterloggingand traffic jams in several parts of the capital.
Till 8.30 am, the city recorded 4.6 millimeters of rainfall in the last 24 hours and the relative humidity was 93 per cent.
The massive rains, which started at around 7 am in the morning, blocked roads as they filled with water. A road caved in Vasundhara area of Ghaziabad on Thursday morning creating major waterlogging in the area.
Reports of waterlogging emerged from several places, including DND (Delhi-Noida-Direct) Flyway, Noida sectors 16 and 18, Sarita Vihar, Vasundhara area in Ghaziabad and several underpasses across the Delhi-NCR.
Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory for motorists to avoid certain sections of roads. Many residents also complained of power cuts in their localities.
The meteorological department issued heavy rain warning for the next 36 hours in Uttarakhand, ANI reported.
"The sky will remain generally cloudy throughout the day. There may be spells of light to moderate rain in most parts of the city," an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.
