UP CM Yogi calls for simpler exams as 10 lakh students skip Boards

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has emphasised on the need to make examinations simpler after over 10 lakh examinees skipped the state board tests in the last four days.

It is for the first time in over nine-decade history of the UP Board that such a large number of examinees have quit examinations, which experts said could largely be a result of strict anti-cheating measures implemented by the board in accordance with the state government’s directives.

Over 10 lakh students, out of 66 lakh registered for the Uttar Pradesh board examinations, have reportedly failed to appear in state tests in the last four days.

As per media reports, the dropout rate is twice the previous year (2017), when around 5 lakh chose to not appear for the examinations.

"When we said let's conduct a cheating-free exam (then) 10 lakhs students dropped out. This is the figure until now. I don't know what will happen in future," Adityanath said speaking at the book launch of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Exam Warrior’ in its Hindi version.

“A fear of exams is being created among students. We are observing and we will not leave it at this. It is necessary to think on how exams could be further simplified,” he added.
