Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is back from a five-day foreign trip, has called a special cabinet meeting at 11.30 am on Saturday.

The cabinet will take up two draft ordinances, one of which will look into the capital punishment to those who are convicted of children below the age of 12. The other ordinance will look into the provisional attaching the property of suspected economic offenders who have fled the country.

The Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill, 2018, the Commercial Courts, Commercial Division and Commercial Appellate Division of High Courts (Amendment) Bill, 2018 and Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Bill, 2018 are to be taken up and discussed by the Union Cabinet today.

The Cabinet has decided to address these matters on an urgent basis since the Parliament is not in session. Both the ordinances in many ways underscore the seriousness of the govt with which it takes both the issues.

Reports suggest that the Cabinet may also amend the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.
