Udaipur murder case Live updates: Kanhaiya Lal cremated, funeral procession amid tight security

The manner in which the tailor was murdered has raised suspicion on the accused’s links with any terror outfit. The arrested accused, namely Riyaz and Gaus Mohammed, are both the residents of Surajpole, Udaipur, the police said.

Kanhaiya Lal's wife Yashoda demanded that the culprits should be hanged to death.

"We demand those people who murdered him (Kanhaiya Lal) should be hanged to death, we demand their death sentence and need justice," she said.

Former Delhi BJP media head Naveen Kumar Jindal, who was expelled from the party over his tweet on Prophet Mohammad, demanded security for himself and his family after he allegedly received death threats via e-mails, which also had videos of the Udaipur "beheading" incident. 

The Delhi Police, however, said it has provided adequate security to Jindal and that his complaint is being examined. 

Around 6.45 am, I received three e-mails with videos of tailor Kanhaiya Lal's murder in Udaipur and a threat of similar treatment to me and my family, Jindal said. 

"This is not the first threat. I have received hundreds of threats through social media, phone calls and messages in the past one month but Delhi Police has not strengthened my security cover although I have written half a dozen times to officials, including the commissioner of police," he said.

Amnesty International condemned the brutal killing of a tailor in Rajasthan's Udaipur,  and claimed that India must ensure that there is no impunity for those responsible for hate crimes. They also urged India to take urgent steps to protect people against any attacks.

Prominent Muslim organisations have condemned the brutal killing of a tailor in Udaipur, calling it "un-Islamic" and asserting that no person has the right to take law into one's hands, PTI reported.

Bodies like All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind are issuing statements condemning the murder of Kanhaiya Lal by two men.

In the brutal killing of a tailor in Udaipur, one of the two prime accused allegedly has links with the Pakistan-based organisation Dawat-e-Islami. The man had visited Karachi in 2014, reported PTI quoting the Rajasthan Police chief said on Wednesday.

Director General of Police (DGP) M L Lather said at a press conference that the police have detained three more people in connection with the killing so far,

Kanhaiya Lal, who was brutally killed by two men here, was cremated in the presence of a large number of people even as curfew remained clamped in parts of the city, reported PTI.

Several people gathered at Lal's home raising slogans after his body was handed over to family members after postmortem.

Slogans like 'Bharat Mata ki Jay' and 'Kanhaiya Hum Sharminda Hain Tere Katil Jinda Hain' were chanted by people while others carried saffron flags.

The Uttar Pradesh Police has stepped up vigil in its state after the murder of a tailor in Rajasthan, PTI reported quoting Director General of Police DS Chauhan. The DGP has also warned about strict action against anyone posting provocative posts on social media.

"All UP police personnel posted across the state are on alert following the incident in Udaipur. We will take strict action against those who post provocative material on social media. Our priority remains to maintain law and order in the state in any case," Chauhan told the media.
