The Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday arrested two over-ground workers of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) outfit in the state's Anantnag district.

The police have also recovered a live grenade from the two arrestees.

The police and the army had established a joint Naka (checkpoint) at Tulkhan crossing on the new national highway in south Kashmir. The Naka party busted the two suspicious people who were roaming around in the region. 

The two were later identified as Amin Ahmad Sofi, a resident of Charligund Awantipora and Tanveer Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Chechikot Awantipora.

The investigations revealed that the two were assisting HM militant Hamad Khan operating in the Tral area and were involved in the grenade attack at Goriwan Chowk in the Bijbehara area on May 23 this year in which 10 civilians were injured.

The police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter.

Earlier during the day, two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district of south Kashmir today.
