Story highlights

This is not the first time Sinha has made the claim. He has also said that the number of air passengers in the country is higher than railway passengers travelling in AC coaches.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha has said people pay less for aifare today than they do for an autorickshaw.

"Today airfare is less than that of an autorickshaw. You'll ask how is that possible?" Sinha asked.

"When two people take an autorickshaw, they pay fare of Rs 10. Which means they're charged Rs 5 per km but when you go by air you are charged Rs 4 per km," Sinha said.

Sinha had said the same thing in February too.

He added then that more people were opting for air travel because the country had the cheapest fares in the world.

He has also said that the number of air passengers in the country is higher than railway passengers travelling in AC coaches.
