Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday announced two per cent reservation in state government jobs for sportspersons. 

The announcement came on the same day when Rao facilitated the 18 Indian athletes who participated in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games at the Pragati Bhavan in Hyderabad.

A senior official of the State government said currently two per cent seats in educational institutions were reserved for sportspersons.

"A file pertaining to the two per cent reservation for sportspersons in government jobs is with the Chief Minister. Once he clears it, GO will be issued," the official said. 

The athletes including members from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra and Karnataka - Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, Srikanth Kidambi, Rankireddy Satwik Sairaj, N Sikkireddy, HSK Prannoy, Pranav Chopra, Chirag Shetty, Ashwini Ponnappa and G Ruthvika Shivani (all badminton players), Hasamuddin Mohammed (boxing), Aruna Budda Reddy and Meghana Gundlapally (gymnastics), Kynan Darius Cheni and Gagan Narang (shooting), Sharath Kamal Achanta (table tennis) and Ragala Venkat Rahul (Weightlifting).

He praised the sportspersons for bringing laurels to the country and state, the release added.
