The leaders of the two factions of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) paid tribute to former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa who died after a prolonged illness at the age of 68.
Tamil Nadu chief minister E Palaniswami and deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam of the ruling EPS-OPS factionpaid tribute to the former chief minister at her memorial.
AIADMK (Amma) leader TTV Dhinakaran, nephew of Jayalalithaa's close aide Sasikala, and his supporters took out a rally towards Jayalalithaa's memorial.
The vacuum created after Jayalalithaa's death is felt even today by followers and members of her party who have split into two factions.
AIADMK national spokesperson Apsara Reddy, who was present at the memorial, said that nobody can replace Amma, as Jayalalithaa was fondly called.
"The political developments in the state after Amma's demise have been very sad. Nobody can replace Amma," said Reddy.
"Jayalalitha gave a transgender woman as me the position of a national spokesperson. I am the first ever transgender national spokesperson in India which is a huge fact," she added.
