RK Nagar seat has been left vacant ever since the demise of Jayalalitha.

Actor Vishal on Monday filed his nomination papers in Chennai. The actor is set to contest the RK Nagar bypolls, a seat left vacant since the demise of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

Vishal arrived at the Election Commission office in a two-wheeler on Monday morning and even interacted with people from the area. The actor has declared movable assets worth Rs 2.45 lakh and a car worth Rs 1.41 crore and has asked for the 'Whistle'to be his symbol.

Puratchi Thalapathy Vishal also visited the memorials of important leaders of the state before reaching the electoral office. The actor visited Kamarajar memorial at Chennai, MG Ramachandran’s house, Anna memorial and J Jayalalithaa’s memorial and paid his respects.

When Vishal announced his entry into politics, many were left surprised. The actor has stated that Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and Arvind Kejriwal were his inspiration to enter politics. Kejriwal had even tweeted to the actor, welcoming him into politics. “Welcome @VishalKOfficial. Ur entry in politics will inspire many youngsters. Lets meet up when u come to Del next (sic),” the Delhi chief minister had tweeted.

Interestingly, not all have been supportive of Vishal's decision to join politics. Director Cheran and a few others have protested against Vishal's decision. Cheran had demanded Vishal's resignation from film organization posts, saying his political plunge would hamper the functioning of these bodies. Vishal is the president of Tamil Film Producers Council and the general secretary of the Nadigar Sangam.
