Domestic animal owners in Punjab will now have to pay tax on them.

ANI reported that owners of dogs, cats, pigs, sheep, deer etc would have to pay Rs 250 a year.

And that owners of cows, bulls, buffaloes, horses, camels, elephants etc would have to pay Rs 500 a year.

The animals will all be branded -- to ascertain whether the tax on them has been paid or not.

ANI reported that each animal would either be marked with an ID number or that a microchip would be installed in each animal.

Moreover, a pet owner in Punjab will also have to get a licence from the authority, which will be renewed annually.
