West Bengal chief minister Mamta Banerjee is set to fly to Chennai as DMK president M Karunanidhi's health continues to deteriorate.
According to the latest health bulletin released by Kauvery hospital despite maximum medical support Karunanidhi's "vital organ functions continue to deteriorate".
Karunanidhi's kin S. Selvi reportedly rushed to the hospital to be beside the ailing leader.
"There has been significant decline in the clinical condition of Kalaignar M Karunanidhi over the last few hours," hospital executive director Dr Aravindan Selvaraj said.
Karunanidhi, 94, was admitted to the Kauvery hospital in Chennai, following a drop in blood pressure in the wee hours of July 28. He has been in ICU ever since.
He was hospitalised after July 29th for an extended period due to age-related ailments under active medical support.
Several hundred  Karunanidhi supporters continued their vigil outside the hospital as security around the hospital was beefed up.
