Shooting at Aligarh Muslim University: Motorcycle assailants open fire on two staff members

Two employees of the Uttar Pradesh-based Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), were shot at inside campus by assailants on a motorcycle on Wednesday (Jul24), according to police reports.
The injured have been identified as brothers, Mohammad Nadeem and Mohammad Kaleem. The two men were immediately hospitalised following the attack.
The motive for the attack is believed to be a longstanding grudge. According to Nadeem's wife, the attackers belonged to a criminal gang and had previously harassed their 13-year-old daughter.
She said that they had reported the harassment to authorities, leading to the filing of a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case against the suspects.

The shooting, as per news agency PTI, occurred while Nadeem and Kaleem were riding a two-wheeler inside the university premises. Two attackers, also on a motorcycle, intercepted them and fired multiple rounds at close range.
Eyewitnesses reported that four to five shots were fired during the incident.
Responding quickly, the University security personnel chased and captured the suspects shortly after the shooting.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Amrit Jain confirmed that the attackers have been arrested. He said that the police are gathering crucial evidence from the crime scene to further investigate the shooting.
