The bones and other remains allegedly of Sheena Bora, the woman for whose death her mother and former Indian media baron Indrani Mukherjee went to jail, are missing, a court was told.
The remains were recovered from the scene of her alleged murder over a decade ago by the police in Raigad in the western state of Maharashtra. The prosecution made the revelation about the missing bones on Thursday (June 13) to a Central Bureau of Investigation court holding the trial.
Sheena Bora, 24, was allegedly killed in April 2012, and her murder came to light in 2015, according to police.
Indrani Mukerjea, the prime accused in the murder case, is currently out on bail.
The missing of bones came to light when a forensic expert from Mumbai's JJ Hospital was testifying. The doctor was the first to examine the remains found in 2012.
The CBI court is presently recording the testimony of the forensics expert who had first examined the bones recovered by the police in 2012 from the spot where Sheena Bora's burnt body was buried.
Special Public Prosecutor CJ Nandode informed the court that the bones and remains of the victim's body, which were referenced and examined by the witness- a forensics expert, are not traceable despite a thorough search, according to a report in PTI news agency.
The prosecution said it intends to examine the witness without presenting the bones as they are untraceable.
The CBI court has adjourned the matter to June 27.
Sheena Bora’s mother Indrani with her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna allegedly kidnapped Sheena Bora on April 24, 2012, from Bandra, and strangled her in a car.
The car was driven by Shyamwar Rai, also an accused in the case who later turned approver.
The accused, together, allegedly disposed off the body in a forest near Gagode village on Pen-Khopoli road in the neighbouring Raigad district the next day.
Bora’s remains were discovered by local police within few days, but the murder case came to light on August 21, 2015, when the Khar police arrested the driver Rai for another crime.
While police was interrogating Rai, he revealed details related to Bora’s murder following which a murder case was registered resulting in arrest of Indrani and Khanna.
In September 2015, the CBI took over the investigation and arrested Indrani’s husband and media baron Peter Mukerjea, claiming that he was involved in killingBora.
According to the CBI investigation,Indrani and Mukerjea were unhappy about Bora’s relationship with Rahul, Peter’s son from a previous marriage.
Indrani Mukerjeawas granted bail by the Supreme Court in May 2022.
