Shashi Tharoor ignored Sunanda when she was slipping into depression: Delhi Police to court

In its chargesheet filed before a Delhi court in the Sunanda Pusshkar death case, the Delhi Police has accused Congress leader Shashi Tharoor of ignoring his wife Sunanda Pushkar when she was "slipping into depression".

The chargesheet states that Shashi Tharoor "as a husband ignored Sunanda when she was sliding or slipping into depression and she had Alprax". It also mentions that they had frequent fights.

Sunanda Pushkar was found dead in her suite at a luxury hotel in Delhi on January 17. In its 3000 page chargesheet, the police has accused Shashi Tharoor of abetting her suicide.

The police has alleged that Shashi Tharoor ignored Sunanda Pushkar's attempts to reach him through phone calls and social media. Sunanda Puskhar suspected her husband of having an affair with a Pakistani journalist which led to a major fight between them days before her death.

The police told the court that Sunanda Puskhar's mail and messages on social media have been taken as a "dying declaration".

Twenty seven tablets of Alprax were found in her room, the police told the court, adding that it is not clear how many she had.

On January 8, in an email to her husband nine days before her death, Sunanda Pushkar stated that "I have no desire to live. All I pray for is death."

A Delhi court, meanwhile, today reserved for June 5 its order on whether to summon Congress leader Shashi Tharoor as an accused in the death case. The special court is meant to hear cases against parliamentarians and legislators.

Shashi Tharoorhas been charged under sections 498 A (husband or his relative subjecting a woman to cruelty) and 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code.

An FIR was registered by Delhi Police on January 1, 2015 against unknown persons under IPC section 302 (murder).

According to prosecution sources, the charge sheet has mentioned that Sunanda Pushkar was allegedly subjected to mental as well as physical cruelty.
